The Story of Temple Field

Donated to the Oden Community Association in 1950 by Harvey and Gladys Temple, the property on the corner of Luce Street and Moore Road was to be used specifically for a ballfield for children of the community. Over the last couple of decades, the ballfield had fallen into a state of disrepair. The field still had "good bones," but it had suffered damage from ATVs and general neglect. In the fall of 2023, the Oden Community Association elected a new board. Kathleen Moody, Secretary of the OCA, made a motion to renovate the ballfield, and everyone agreed. This began the journey to renew what would soon be named "Temple Field."

Literally hundreds of volunteer hours were donated, and thousands of dollars were granted or donated over the next two years, for the purpose of bringing the ballfield back. Not to its former glory, but upgraded to a whole new level. In 2025, electricity (courtesy of Wayne's Electric) and a flagpole (hand-made and donated by Don App) were installed for the first time ever. Rick George and Wayne Blomberg also built an amazing new hand-made scoreboard with a first-class deck built by Nick Davison. Denny Hewitt, our ballfield manager, booked 33 practices and 3 games on Temple Field ... all in its first season of use after a long hiatus. As of January 2026, Luttrell Well Drilling installed a new well, so Temple Field has running water for the first time in decades. And more improvements are in the works.
